the truth about DDF Mattifying Oil Control

I consider myself a natural girl. I rarely wear make-up. When I do, it is for special occasions, and it is only some mascara and lip gloss. If I feel wild, a matte lipstick. I don’t like to spend time primping – my clothes are usually slightly wrinkled and my hairdryer has been used maybe 3 times this year. Don’t get me wrong, there are quite a few beautifying tricks I employ, such as; pedicures, waxing, facials (when I have money), moisturizing, and shaving, but, I like to keep my daily routine quick and easy. Which brings me to my next review….DDF’s Mattifying Oil Control Moisturizer with SPF 15.

When Maddie asked me to review this facial cream, I was a bit hesitant as I have been a loyal follower of Mario Badescu products for years and was somewhat reluctant to replace my current day cream. However, I am a sucker for marketing claims. The little white and pink box said that this lotion would do the following: instantly control shine, mattify imperfections, protect from UVA/UVB sun damage and help to control acne. Wow. This sounded like the perfect elixir for my natural girl tendencies.

So far so good. I have been using this lotion during my morning cleansing ritual for a few weeks and I am extremely happy with the results. It is a light fragrance free moisturizer – no oily residue. It absorbs quickly and has left my skin feeling soft and smooth and pretty much shine free. Now, I have to say, I have been plagued by the occasional pimple here and there throughout my life. I went through puberty years ago but unfortunately my face never got completely over it. Since I have been using this cream, I have noticed that my blemishes have definitely lessened. In fact, I can’t remember having an embarrassing mountain on my face since I have used this product. I have to say I really like it!

Now, just for you girls, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and take this review one step further. I would imagine that an important quality in a daytime moisturizer would be its ability to prime the skin for make-up application. So, I bought a foundation at my local drug store and applied. Not being a typical foundation wearer, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. The foundation went on smoothly and evenly – I think that’s good, but I needed a judge. Someone who knows my facial behavior even better than me …. my husband, Todd.

The day progressed without him saying a word. My impatience got the better of me so I gave him a hint. “Do you notice anything different about me today,” I offered taking my glasses off and holding my head up high. “What’s up with the dark circles under your eyes,” he replied. This quickly segued into a heated discussion on how I needed a bit more help in the nighttime caring of our six month old daughter. After a few exchanges, I realized I was losing focus and had to bring the conversation back to my intended goal. “My face, damn it. I am asking for your opinion on how my face looks. I am wearing foundation to test its effects on the surface of that face cream I am reviewing.” “Oh,” he replied, “you look nice.” Hmmm. Well, I guess I can deduce something from this experience. No obvious negative reaction means that I didn’t look that different. That means 1) I chose a foundation color that matched my skin tone and 2) it applied smoothly and evenly on top of DDF’s Mattifying moisturizer.

THE VERDICT

So, my final take on DDF’s Mattifying Oil Control Moisturizer with SPF 15 is that this is a great daytime moisturizer. It retails for $42. Not a bad price as far as luxury products go. I have to say, I am quickly becoming a fan of DDF products.
