So yesterday in my Bridesmaid gift post I mentioned a DIY, at home face mask… it really got me thinking about how much I wanted to be pampered. I was dying for a facial all day yesterday – for me one of the most relaxing treatments ever…
I had a dream last night that I set up an appointment at a Bob’s Furniture to get a facial– don’t ask– and the woman kept trying to cancel my appointment, but I wouldn’t let her… Finally I got there, like 4 hours late because I had to run a 6 mile marathon on the way (HA!), and even though I was late she still agreed to see me and give me my facial. The problem was that I slept through the entire thing (well, duh, it was a dream).. but even in my dream I didn’t get to enjoy it.
I don’t know why I’m boring you all with my strange facial at Bob’s dream… Jordan tells me I should usually keep these sorts of thoughts to myself, and here I go typing them into my public diary– I suppose I am just totally fixated on that facial (be happy I’m not drowning you with stories about the wonderful veggie chips I just bought at Trader Joe’s yesterday). OK. so, facials… I did some research on at home, DIY facials and I thought it would be fun to share them with you so we can all pamper ourselves… at home… today.
disclaimer: If something weird happens to your face while trying these it is not my fault. If your face catches fire, starts to melt, breaks out in hives… or anything weird, stop what you are going and call an ambulance.. or just rinse off the ingredients. UM, no, but, really.. if you allergic to one of the ingredients or something like that– don’t use it.
Egg White Mask for all skin types
Ingredients:
- 2 egg whites, separated from the yolk and placed in a bowl
- 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt (I like Greek yogurt)
Preparation:
Separate the egg whites from a couple eggs and place them in a bowl. Add 2 tablespoons of yogurt (do not use flavored yogurt!). Mix them up and apply to face. Leave on face for a few minutes then rinse face in warm water, followed by a warm washcloth.
Oatmeal, Honey & Yogurt rejuvenating mask for all skin types
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp oatmeal, finely ground
- 1 tbsp live, organic yogurt (skip the flavored stuff)
- A few drops of honey
Preparation:
Add the yogurt to the oatmeal in a small bowl and mix together.
Warm a few drop of honey. To do this, warm a spoon under hot water for a minute, then add a few drops of honey to the spoon.
Yogurt & Honey Cooling mask for all skin types
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp natural yogurt, room temperature (not lowfat or non-fat)
- 1 tsp runny honey (microwave for a few minutes to soften hardened honey)
Preparation:
Combine mixture, then apply to face.
Let sit for 15 minutes.
Wash face with steaming washcloth.
For dry skin, use an extra tsp of honey.
Oily skin? Add a few drops of fresh lime juice.
Masks should stay on for 10-15 minutes. Follow with a cleansing and a thin layer of moisturizer.
