I am sitting here in my wingback chair… in pjs. Hair is in a tight bun, as my bangs, which are growing out, have just gotten long enough to be included in my pony… sans bobbie pin (yay). I’m feeling really good about that… I am refreshed after a nice hot bath and ready to scour the web for post inspiration… and here we go..
I stumble across some fashion week pics (I know you’re probably like, “Maddie– fashion week is so old what the hell are you thinking… be quiet)… and slowly, any feelings of goodness that I had start to drip over the sides of my chair and on to the floor. I no longer feel refreshed and eager.. I feel fat and un-stylish in jersey knit pjs. SO not cool.
if you’re anything like me, after studying photos from New York Fashion Week…. Phillip Lim, Alberta Ferretti, Alexander McQueen, Badgley Mischka, Balmain, Blumarine, Chanel, Diane von Furstenberg, Gucci, Hervé Léger by Max Azria, Isaac Mizrahi, Matthew Williamson, Burberry Prorsum, Michael Kors, Rodarte, Stella McCartney, Thakoon, Valentino, Vera Wang, Versace, Zac Posen and Derek Lam (um ok so that’s just about everyone), you’re like… oh. ok. great. now that I know what’s in style, how the hell do I bring that into my wardrobe? So here we have 6 foot, 90 pound models strutting in hand sewn sequined couture down the catwalks alongside other non-human-like humans.
L-R Derek Lam, Versace, Rodarte, Stella McCartney, Balmain
Great. That’s just freaking great that these women are so beautiful and stunning and what am I supposed to do with this information… sequins. horrah for sequins… and how exactly do I take that and apply it to my wardrobe without looking like a rotund and sparkly Christmas ornament?
Suddenly I am determined not to let this make me feel unfortunate about who I am and what I have (errr, or don’t have)… I take on the challenge of figuring out how to apply a high fashion trend to my real life… our real lives… real bodies… real places that we live and work… not the runway.
Just because we’re a few feet shorter and a few pounds heaver than the women who convey this trend to us, doesn’t mean we can’t pull it off stunningly as well. After all, we represent the majority of the world.
So, when Grechen, of Grechens Closet and I had a quick chat about important items to be featured on her fabulous site, I decided sequins should most definitely be tackled.
I styled this set and wrote a blurb for her fab readers, and I want you all to enjoy it too! (pssst: I also covered sequins on Nicky Digital… See what I had to say there (I am obsessed with the item I covered… you’ll see…).)
Ok– so here is the look I styled on Grechens Closet!!!! Check it out on her site to get the full story behind the set..
