So I arrive at my parents’ house in New Fairfield, CT a few weekends ago and my mom is just like, looking at me not saying anything. She has this expression about her that’s like, “I’m so cool, what sort of message am I trying to get across to you without words”. After a series of strange stares back and forth and me asking, “what mom?”…. “what mom?” about 6 times she finally goes, “look”, as though I hadn’t been looking at her all along.
She had the same tone in her voice that she has when she calls my phone, and if I don’t pick up, Jordan’s phone, at all hours of the day to let us know that, “you know, Lilly Allen is going to hit it big time”, or (her most recent one, calling Jordan’s phone at 8 am when I out running an errand and didn’t hear mine ring), “Hey Jord, tell Madds that desert shoes are the next big thing”… She had this heir of coolness about her … the same sort of thing as when she beckons me into a secret conversation, or sends me an e-mail at 11:45 pm, with her next big “URL idea… It would go viral, Madds!… Fine, you don’t think it’s cool. I bet Jordan does.” (I do have to give her credit… she always calls the trends months before they emerge, and has this weird way of knowing which musical artist is going to be the next big star before they even emerge on the main stage. Go RO!)
So we’re sitting at the table and finally I asked, “Mother dear… what are you trying to tell me… what is with the look at me, look at me?”…. She replied, “your father thinks I had work done on my eyes.. can you believe it? He thinks I had work done on my eyes! what do you think!?” (My lovely readers, at this point- I am still just as confused as you are…)
Me: “Mom. that is so cool, but seriously what are you talking about? I know you didn’t have work done on your eyes…” (p.s. my mom looks super young for her age and has been blessed with amazing hair and skin, among many other wonderful things. love you mom. To this day, she has never really actually grown a gray hair. I know. amazing)
Ro: “Well, I have been using a little something on my eyes and your father seriously thinks I went out to have work done on my lids”
Dad chimes in: “yeah! they look so nice! I really did think that!”
OMG at this point I’m like picturing them doing their thing… Ro is gardening outside with all of her gardening equipment and pointing to where she wants my dad to spray the bitter animal spray or whatever… Then they go down to the lakefront and kayak together, admiring birds and trees, come back up to the house for a walk around the neighborhood and then it’s time for their morning cappuccino, and my dad goes, “Hey Ro, what’s going on with your eyes!? They look so much younger… did you have work done?!” Like, did he actually think that she went and had eyelid surgery without telling him? what? so strange..
Ever since I bragged to her about my amazing eye cream discovery, I think she made it her mission to find a close second… and it seems as though she did.
Ok. so. back to the story… my mom is all excited because she thinks her eyelids look awesome, which they do, and she proceeds to whisper to me what she’s been using. DDF [Advanced Eye Firming Concentrate]. She had tried it out in the beginning of the Summer, but felt that it was a little heavy. Waiting for the onset of cooler weather, she said, was the trick. She says she applies this miracle concentrate morning and night and swears she sees a difference… as does my Dad, apparently, LOL.
ohhh gotta love the Momster…
