There was this thing we used to do in the high school yearbooks, which we thought was like, the coolest thing ever. We mostly thought so because it was a feature that Teen vogue would often use… it was the “what’s in her bag” photo. It would always be so interesting to know what our fellow 14 year old friend had in her bag, which usually included bubble gum flavored lip gloss, a slap bracelet, a picture of her dog, and a note from her friend folded into some nifty origami shape. As a young girl, beginning to carry a bag, purse, pocketbook, whatever you wanna call it, brought about some of the most inexplicable feelings. You felt important– you felt special, and you felt excited to show the world what was in your purse, if at any moment the Teen Vogue editor happened to tap you on the shoulder and tell you to spill it.
One time I went to a pumpkin festival with my adorable 7 year old cousin, and she insisted on carrying her purse around all night. The thing was big and heavy, and she felt so special and so excited to have this thing in her posession. She kept swinging it around and lifting it back up onto her shoulder like, “oh, my pocketbook keeps slipping, I better make sure it stays up here…” At the end of the night she finally revealed the contents, which included plat-o, an aqua pod, and some lanyard. It was the most precious thing ever. I tried to hold back my laughter because she was so proud, with a look on her face saying, “good thing I had this with me at the pumpkin festival”.
I decided to dump out the contents of my bag for you to peak into my life… Or maybe it’s actually because I was never featured in a magazine or yearbook and it’s finally my time to shine. If my bag was dumped out in high school you would probably see a tatoo necklace, my beeper covered in stickers(HA!), chapstick, a pencil box, which I carried around everywhere- strange, I know, a forged bus note to go to my friend Jamie’s house, and Certain Dry (I though I had an excessive sweating problem and was totally mortified by it). Gosh I wish I could remember everything else I used to carry in my bag because I’m sure there was some pretty funny stuff.
Ok so here you see my favorite business card holder from Urban Outfitters, my eyebrow brush, which I have to take everywhere I go, my banana clip (eh hem, you should know how obsessed I am with this item), my HDFlip- ya never know when a movie worthy moment is gunna pop up, a hair curler, some grape gum, which was GROSS, Sephora body splash, Kai perfume oil, a scunci headband, and a little menu of all this amazing homemade flan made by a lovely woman named Katya, in Wilton CT. I tasted some… delicious, and I am not usually a flan gal! So, that’s what’s in my bag
