I don’t know about all of you, but I had head gear.
It had a navy blue stretchy strap with a red line detail, that went around the back of my head… the front piece hooked into the spacers on my back molars and then beautifully projected itself about 3-4 inches away from the front of my face. The biggest message that you need to understand- I thought it was so rad.
I showed this piece of equipment off at slumber parties (the ones that I actually stayed at– I had a severe homesickness issue when I was younger.. to be covered in a future post). I would snap it in and hook it around my neck and then proceed to lisp my way through late night card games and ghost stories like I had this awesome thing that only I could wear.
One definite memory I have regarding head gear is the radio station cool 96.7. My tiny little weird boom box was positioned within my wooden headboard that my dad built. I would snap my head gear in, reach up into my headboard shelf, turn on cool 96.7, which was all oldies, and cozily fall asleep dreaming about Lisa Frank stickers and what leotard I might enjoy wearing tomorrow at gymnastics.
this is me around the time of headgear. I think.
Lollipop always made me happy, and along with the Big Bopper’s Chantilly Lace, this music was what you would hear me listening to not only as I drifted off into pre-teen sleep, but also when I was alone in my room cutting out pages from Delia*s and pinning them up on my walls.
