So, a few of you may have noticed… many of you probably not, that I am less active here on the world wide web of twitter and facebook and whatnot when Friday rolls around. And NO.. I am not making videos about putting egg whites on my face.. that is strictly Thursday material.
Where, you might ask, have you been, Miss Madeline? Well, my dear friends and darlings… I have been working with the wonderful and amazing Jennifer Paganelli… founder and designer of Sis Boom Fabrics. On Fridays I drive to the beautiful world of Sis Boom and spend the day enjoying work (which doesn’t feel like work) with Jennifer and her enormous version of Mimi, George (labradoodle), who you just can’t get enough of.
Working at Sis Boom is working in Heaven. There is no other way to put it. When you are there you are surrounded by a kind of creativity that is so inspiring it stays with you forever. I’m going to borrow a line from the Sis Boom website, because I couldn’t have said it better… It reads, “She [Jennifer] abides by no rules in her design exploration but when the workshop goes quiet, and the design desk light is turned off what she’s left is characteristically her look created consciously. And not. She invites all of her friends and fans with a creative bent to do the same. “Always honor your sense of design and don’t ever be afraid to mix pattern and color. Then invite friends over and spread the love!”
Eye Candy, which is a phrase used on the Sis Boom website, are the exact words that come to mind when you walk into Jennifer’s studio. It is an open, airy, dreamy space that is just full of beautiful materials, vintage everything, Sis Boom upholstered furniture, pillows (to die for), piles of fabric and vintage clothing, hangings of Jennifer’s totally amazing and famous banners, cheerful flower lamps, an abundance of utterly ingenious and outrageously creative pieces of art, glitter, glitter more glitter, and the most tangible thing is Jennifer’s awesome energy, warmth, love and enthusiasm– I kid you not people, this woman has the kindest heart.
Among Jennifer’s collections are the sweetest dresses, skirts, tunics tops and toys you have ever seen– all, of course, designed with her Sis Boom fabric. The last few weeks have been spent getting everything ready for the Big Sis Boom Show and Sale (eh hem, which will be held December 3, 4, 5).
While sorting the collections out, and getting them ready I tend to day dream about how this tunic could be paired with that skirt, how that skirt might be worn as a sundress, how this little dress is so extraordinary and would look amazing matched with stripes…
So, Jennifer has a collection of dress forms, which were standing naked for quite some time… and she must have read my mind, or maybe possibly I mentioned something in passing… because she asked me to dress a few of them last Friday. I tried to contain my excitement, while on the inside fireworks were exploding and I was smiling so hard that I thought my cheeks were going to explode. (if that happens when you smile hard.. hmm)
Toward the end of my workday I made really great friends with the dress forms and got them all dolled up for the Big Sis Boom Sale. I was alone in the house, yet felt like I had made new friends. I stood there changing them from this skirt to that tunic, turning them to face the mirror and then either felt that it was the perfect ensemble or like it just wasn’t happening. I emailed Jordan and told him I was going to be late because I was in Heaven dressing dress forms and he just laughed. I know it’s hard to understand.
I was so excited that I snapped a bunch of pictures of my friends to take home with me and walked out for the day as the happiest girl on earth. (is that creepy or weird? that I was talking with the forms whilst dressing them?) wait, what?
