brussel sprouts.

say what you want, but these little green pillows of joy have become a regular, stinky treat in the Rhodesidou household (that’s what I have decided to call our abode from here forth, with the occasional switcheroo of Rabirhodes [Jordan Raibdou / Madeline Rhodes]).

I had heard people shit-talking brussel sprouts for years and years… and so I never gave the little buggers a fair chance. We didn’t really have them growing up– I guess you could say we were more of a broccoli & string beans family, whatever that means. With that having been said, I’m not sure when I discovered their true beauty and delectable flavor. It had to have been some time recently.. within the past 4 years or so, I’d say.

Enough about my history with brussel sprouts and on to how simple, delicious, and awesome they are.

you will need:

  • brussel sprouts (Trader Joe’s has a nice sized bag)
  • a sink
  • a knife
  • olive oil (extra virgin)
  • sea salt
  • fresh ground pepper
  • toasted sesame oil
  • toaster oven / stove
  • tastebuds
  1. buy brussel sprouts (get them on a stalk if you’re feeling the need to hang them over your shoulder whilst you grocery shop)
  2. take them home (in your car, or on a bike / unicorn etc)
  3. pre-heat oven or toaster oven (if large enough) to 375
  4. rinse
  5. cut the little hard bit off at the base
  6. cut each brussy (yes) in half and toss into a mixing bowl
  7. sprinkle a few TBSP of olive oil on those badboys
  8. toss on some coarse sea salt (4-5 twists of the grinder)
  9. grind some fresh pepper (8-9 twists of grinder (totally making that up))
  10. sprinkle on about 2-3 TBSP of toasted sesame oil on these bad boys and stir ir all up as to spread the goodness throughout
  11. spread these little guys out on a baking sheet and bake away (maybe 45 minutes, or until you get bored)
  12. let it go ’til they start to brown a little bit and even slightly crisp. that’s the best part.
  13. enjoy. omg they are SO good, right?
  14. you will probably experience a farty smell throughout the house for a day or two, but please, don’t let that stop you.
