summer hair woes?

What does your hair look like 10 minutes after you step out of the house? Please tell me, because this summer, my hair has been a real nuisance… really ugly, flat, knotty, limp, and unexciting (come and get me boys!). Most days I end up wearing it in a huge bun on top of my head to keep it out of my face. PLUS- I am growing out my bangs which is an extra pain in the ass. (all of you bang growing outers- you know what I’m talking about…)

A few days ago it occurred to me that maybe it wasn’t my hair’s fault, but rather my fault! So… my story goes like this… I was reading some little article about hair in some magazine whilst on the Precor (which is SO dizzying, right?- reading tiny print and exercising at the same time), and I read something about how to apply conditioner. At first I was like yeah o.k. whatever, but as I skimmed over the article I realized that I quite possibly just discovered one of the reasons why my hair tends to do what it does.

It explained that conditioner should never really be put on the roots of your hair, and that only about a nickel size worth of conditioner should be used [on the ends]. I immediately pictured myself in the shower applying conditioner. I fill my entire palm with heavy duty extra strength conditioner and smear it all over my long mane of hair, roots to tips… brush it through, and let it sit for about 10 minutes while I do other showery sorts of things. The article also suggested switching up hair products every season… I have been using the same products that I use all winter. “BINGO!” I said to myself. I’m applying conditioner like it’s going out of style, and using products that are suitable for winter hair woes. Am I the only person who has been in the dark about hair washing and conditioning protocol?

I am thinking it’s time for a new shampoo / conditioner routine.. wouldn’t you say? Stay tuned for updates as I figure this whole hair debacle thang out! Meanwhile, share your hair stories with me! C’mon… don’t be shy, people!
