ways to beat the heat. things you probably hadn’t thought of.

As mentioned in my previous puppy post, our a.c. units have been temporarily dissembled due to roof replacement. blah blah blah…

This past week or so has been … hell. literally- as in the temperature of my house = that of hell. This means a lot of things. For one, I am super lazy, two, my little mimi sits around (in this case, on a mop) and pants all day, and three, I am partially insane and end up writing posts like this one that you are reading right now.

SO yes. I work from home. (side note: I just put on the most amazing smelling body butter… Mediterranean Fig by Pacifica, and I can’t stop smelling my arms when I pause typing to come up with my next sentence. LOVE Pacifica – I have their candles all over my house). Ok so, as I was saying… I work from home, which means I am in this oven all day long! I have had to come up with some creative ways to keep cool. I figured it might be a fun post, since I’m sure a lot of you are also very hot and sweaty and would prefer to not be. Or perhaps most of you are normal and have access to air conditioning and don’t really care about what I’m about to share…

Just so you know the ice cream truck is passing my house as I type and I am holding myself back.

K, so this may seem obvious, but I bet none of you actually ever do it because you’re afraid of wasting electricity. All of you green people, I love you, please don’t get mad at me when I explain my first keeping cool method. I literally opened the fridge and sat in front of it with my laptop. For a while. I figured where I was saving money by not using air conditioning, I would spend a fraction of it by welcoming the coolness of the fridge into my life. There were a few moments where the freezer was necessary for a quick burst of ice cold air, but it was mostly in front of the fridge. The only thing that is bad about … sitting in your fridge… is the tendency to graze. I did. The other downside to this technique is that when you step away the actual temperature of the room is really intense… which makes you want to get back in the fridge.

My next trick was more eco / electric bill friendly. I filled a huge basin with ice cold water and simply put my feet in it while I worked here on the comp. That totally helped. It was also like getting a pedicure… not really.

p.s. a frosty cocktail can also do the trick (um, only if you’re 21+)… It will cool you off and might make you forget that you’re sitting in an inferno.

So, here I sit, with an ice cold cocktail in hand, feet in icy water, 3 huge fans aiming at mimi (who now insists on sitting in my lap) and me, hoping that a nice breeze will flow through my window and save me from this hot madness.
