how to get tremendous tendrils

I’ve come along way since my totally, 100% pin straight, must have hair iron on me at all times, era. See, I don’t know about you guys, but nowadays I love my hair most when it’s large and in charge. I will tease, hairspray, curl, put objects in there… you name it. I won’t really put objects in there… although, once I did wear a velcro curler under there all night to give it some lift. It was documented quite well via Nicky Digital. After that night, learning that my velcro accessory was out and about, I decided, “no more hidden – or not so hidden – objects, Madds.” That is when my search for hair volumizing products started.

As you may know, I was having some hair difficulty this summer…. which I seem to have fixed thanks to Nature Fusion. I definitely have more body after using this magic potion, but I would really love to have enormously, huge, abnoxious hair a la Beyonce and Shakira in the clip I shared with you yesterday. So yeah– I tried different drying methods, different curling methods, hair spraying methods… but my hair just wasn’t getting the good old va va voom that it used to get back in high school after a few minutes under the diffuser. Is my hair changing? I know that happens to women… their hair changes during their lifetime, but it’s not like I had a kid or underwent any monumental hair-changing situations.

Ok. So, one thing that I never tried was a volumizing brush. I was all like nah- those totally don’t work blah blah blah… and then one day I was all like, “what the heck… let’s just go for it, Madds”… and so I did. The brush of choice was this Sephora (have I told you I am in love with Sephora?) Boar Detangling Brush… awesome for me because my hair is nine times out of ten– very, very knotty. I ran this extravagant brush through my waist length locks and waited for something to happen. I wanted it to puff up in front of my eyes and grow to uncontrollable proportions… I wanted it to make my hair so big that it would force me to wear an industrial headband… I wanted it enormous…. yet, nothing happened… no growth, no puffiness, no excitement. I threw my hair up in a bun, tied it down and proceeded to do my daily things.

A few hours later, and I swear this is true, my hair elastic just popped! It literally broke, making a popping sound and flew off of my head landing on the floor. Suddenly, I felt something on my head spread and blossom like a flower. I ran over to the mirror knowing I was about to witness something quite amazing. My hair literally shot out of its tightly wound bun and fell into the most elegant position… and it. was. HUGE. It lifted up at the roots and fell so beautifully … quite seriously looking as though a pro blew it out minutes before. I was in shock! Even when I touched it and played with it– it went nowhere… it was staying big, bold, and beautiful. I shook my head around for a bit making sure that my tendrils meant it, and when I returned to the mirror my hair, I swear, was even bigger. I started to get worried… like, what have I done? Maybe I don’t want my hair this big… but no, it was just perfect and seemed to have answered my big hair prayer.

It kinda looked like this… but not really. (note: I seriously have no idea what inspired me to take those pictures and post them.)

So some of you might be wondering about the technology behind those boar head bristles… Taken directly from Sephora, because I couldn’t have said it better myself, “This advanced haircare essential harnesses the power of tourmaline to deliver spectacular results. The bristles release negative ions on contact with hair. The ions penetrate the core of the hair shaft, canceling static and frizz and turning up the shine factor. 100 percent boar bristles care effectively for even the most fragile hair, minimizing breakage and maximizing health. A comfortable silicone grip makes for simple, easy use. ”

And there ya have it folks. Have a hairy day!
