pumpkin decor

I used to get annoyed at the thought of pumpkin decor, but I suddenly think it’s one of the coolest things ever.

I was totally inspired last year when I saw somewhere, and I cannot remember where, a pumpkin that had a lace pattern on it… The designer simply put a doily, or piece of lace around the pumpkin and spray painted it, achieving a stencil effect. It looked SO PRETTY! I am such a loser, I know… writing to you about pumpkins… but, there is nothing like good holiday decor– am I right? Making the house warm and cozy, scattering mums and pumpkins about, and baking Autumn-ish treats is what makes me smile. And if you don’t like it then pick on someone your own size.

OK, so maybe or maybe not, I was watching Martha Stewart On Demand… and maybe or maybe not did I go on her web site to gather some Halloween decor inspiration and really liked what I saw. I figured hey – Autumn is my fave, and it’s all about pumpkins, and I may as well live it up pumpkin style. I’m not into the whole carving scary witch scenes into pumpkins, but rather doing un-pumpkiny sorts of things to them… Listen up.

First of all, this might be ugly and weird, but what do you think about painting your pumpkin a totally un-pumpkin color… pink? cornflower blue? like, a whole group of them all different colors. Would that look weird? You could either set them outside your front door, or if they’re smaller, put them in a bell jar on your table as a centerpiece. I think I like it. Who wants to try and let me know?! Actually, don’t waste your time I think it will look weird and then you’ll get annoyed at me.

Another, Martha-ish idea… well, it was totally her idea, is to cover the pumpkins, small ones work best, with glue and then sprinkle glitter on them! It looks really awesome. Check it out on her site here. They are so cute an shimmery and I love them. Then you paint the stem a shimmery green-ish, to keep the theme whimsical.

Then, I was thinking yeah- I like that idea, but it would get totally messy when a normal person does it. (Watching Martha do it looks easy, as always)… so I was thinking, what if I spray painted my pumpkins! I think this is the way I’ll go… some gold spray paint.. and it will be a similar feel sto the glittery-ness, right? errrr. wait.. I totally just realized that was Martha’s idea too… what?

Another Idea I saw somewhere along my internet travels was painting the pumpkin black an then using the seeds to decorate it… It creates a really nice looking contrast… Then I found this really cute idea… on Country Living, of course… Where pumpkins were painted white with black detail. Cute, right?! I especially love the zebra pumpkin, or wood grain, as they call it– and I think it would be really fun and easy to do!! That mixed with gold spray painted pumpkins would be super fun to decorate with… or cheesy.

Wow, ok. I’m on Country Living and feeling like I really wanna have a kid so I can decorate their room like this. How sweet?! But actually my favorite kids room is this one… which I fell in love with on the Selby. ohhh the Selby. (If you didn’t know, I have a serious thing for petticoats)

So from pumpkins to petticoats, this is where my mind was today… One minute I’m glittering my baby pumpkins, and then I decide do scour the web for child’s room decor… I hope you enjoyed my rant and I hope to hear about your pumpkin decor and or future child’s bedroom. IKEA has cute kids rooms too. Ok must stop talking about children and their rooms to be.

OK I’ve gotta go watch an episode of Mad Men. I can’t get enough… and I’m sure if you’re into that show you can’t either. To all a good night. (pssst I usually finish up my posts the night before they go live). PS I AM SO EXCITED I JUST BOUGHT A GLITTERED SKULL… IT’S ON MY TABLE  DOWNSTAIRS. I’ll post a picture manana.
